of merimbula

The end of 2007 was nearing and Ram still had not decided what to do. A little more than frustrated by the non-committal noises he’d make when asked how we’re going to celebrate the end and beginning of the year, I recklessly said yes to the Merimbula trip.

Of course, he was most unhappy when all these events started to pop up after the confirmation.

*sighs* Anyways…

Merimbula is about 6 hours drive from Sydney and pretty close to the NSW-Victoria border. On our way there, we got held up in 2 traffic jams around the Jervis Bay area. I fretted a bit over how bad traffic would be on New Year’s Day on the way home, but decided that it wouldn’t do any good worrying about it now.

The house that Jess found was awesome. This is the view from our verandah/kitchen/living room:

We were so spoilt. The place was tastefully decorated and it felt so welcoming.

Gaston and Jess cooked our first scrumptious dinner and we took our first group photo:

We woke up to a perfect, azure-sky day and so we spent it on Short Beach. Ram and Gas tried to do some surfing with some hired boards; Will accompanied them on his bodyboard. Cham was playing his guitar, sitting on his towel, and got hit on by this guy (who didn’t seem the least bit gay.. but hmmm lol). XD Jess, Duy, and I were reading our various books. I had kinda made a bucket sand-seat, which meant that I couldn’t lie on my front. I didn’t think much of it really until later on, when I discovered how brown I got and slowly discovered that I wasn’t just brown, my chest was rather sunburnt because I had forgotten to put sunscreen there =.=;;

When the boys had enough of the water, they flew Will’s kite – which took several tries to keep it up (it kept nose-diving rather cheerfully into the sand).

I was taking photos, walking backwards to capture a shot… when I felt that I stepped on something that was not sand. *squishies looks down* … A dead bird… *shudders* I didn’t feel clean after that for a while =.= gah.

Late lunch, then we ambled to the wharf where people were fishing and jumping off into the sea. There’s a telescope in the living room of the house, and we mostly had it trained on the wharf XD

Fresh, gusty winds rolled the clouds in by late afternoon. It seemed that it would be overcast the next day.

Fortunately for us, we woke up to a bright sunny day – the sky sporting bunches of fluffy white fairy floss. I honestly can’t remember what we did that day, but I have photos most of us jumping the wharf XD Only Duy and I didn’t though after seeing how much fun it was, I wish I had gotten dressed for the occasion.

There were also these guys doing some pretty daring stuff, like diving head first and a back flip:

We were treated to a gorgeous, last-of-the-year sunset and gorged ourselves on giant homemade pizzas. Gas really surprised me with his proficiency in the kitchen – the food he and Jess cooked was sooooo scrumptiously yummy!

The new year was ushered in with fireworks that we barely saw over the trees and across the bay and fireworks on TV… washed down with some Yellowglen.

Mmm…. argh okay, I can’t remember much any more. Only that on the way home, we went via Cooma – which I reckon saved us a lot of time by avoiding the inevitable crush of people going home from holidays @ Jervis Bay area.

Happy New Year! =D May you stick to your resolutions XD (I haven’t so far.. =T boo)

[Edit 06-02-08: Ah nuts, forgot to link stuff. Ram's photos can be found here and here for Will's. Mine on flickr and picasaweb (day 0, day 1, and day 2).

Also! A couple of funny videos, thanks to Jess! ^_^:

Can't believe I forgot to add these! XD All good...]
